Switzerland is considered a stable country and its car market seems to be the same. The BMW Group hardly changed its sales volume for the past three years, with Mercedes and Audi moving around a little more. It's toward the bottom end there is more going on.

These two nations are close in many ways. Even the number of cars sold here is similar, over the past nine years it's 311,800 to 330,600. However, the Swiss do buy more premium cars so this should favour that country. Interestingly Austria started making Jaguar cars recently, the E-Pace and i-Pace.

Apart from the obvious similarities such as sharing a border and The Alps, the number of car sales can be added to that list. Over the last seven years 313,000 registrations in Switzerland and 326,000 in Austria. However, one area that does show a difference is for JLR and the gap is growing.

In Austria, LR over the seven year period averaged 0.6% share and Jaguar 0.13%, a combined 0.72%.

Premium cars are proving popular in many nations. They are often outselling cheaper mainstream brand while at the same time making more profit. More recently the most aggressive attack on this segment have been the BAM marques, BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz. However other car makers are striking back and the competition is heating up. Total sales were nothing spectacular numerically speaking, a 2% drop in total sales made sure of that. Despite the muted result, it was not enough for VW to slip backwards so a slight improvement in market share. However, plenty of car makers did lose market share in a slightly depressed car market.
