Porsche Model Production : 2017-18

Porsche is known for sports cars but sells mainly SUVs. When the Cayenne arrived in 2002, it immediately took a third of production volume its first year. The following year it was half. With the Macan, SUVs account for two in every three vehicles made. When the Panamera car is added to the SUV total, sports cars drop to less than one in four made.

Production is sitting just over the quarter

Bentley Model Production : 2017-18

The new convertible should go well

Bentley has done really well since VW took over, with sales booming and profits sound. Then the introduction of the Bentayga SUV came in 2016 and things were surely to get only better. Yet that isn't what happened. Profits have dried up and sales fallen despite the SUV's appearance.

As to why I have no idea, but recently VW issued a statement saying it was

Lamborghini Global Model Production : 2017-18

A monstrous 62% production increase is due mainly to the arrival of the Urus SUV. I'm sure it will be the largest part of the output in 2019. With the cars, as to why roadsters were up and coupés were down I have no idea. The opposite was true the previous year.

Audi Global Model Production : 2017-18

Audi seems to have peaked at just under the 1.9 million units figure. Total production has slipped 1% over the past two years and I expect will fall at a faster rate in 2019. SUVs account for 38% of what is made, much higher than VW.

Cars still lead the way with both the A4 and A3, but the Q5 is not far off number two spot. The new electric e-tron has just arrived and it will be interesting

Porsche Germany Sales (Model) : 2010-2016

Porsche drivers park poorly. Fact

Porsche is a niche brand in Germany, traditionally selling expensive sports cars. At that time, the marque took about 0.3% of total German sales.  The Cayenne SUV arrived in 2002 and moved the brand into the 0.5% area. When the Panamera 4-door car came along in 2009, 0.7% became the standard penetration. 2014 marked the arrival of the compact Macan SUV so 0.9

Porsche Global Production By Model : 2016

Porsche is a small marque in numbers of cars made but being in a high price bracket enables it to be very profitable. Only Audi generates more profit in total but Porsche is well ahead in profit per car.

Some facts:

Production was up a modest 2.2% in 2016 to roughly 240,000 units.

However, profit was in excess of €16,000 per vehicle, an impressive amount to say the least. It's not as high

Lamborghini Production By Model : 2016

I have to say I don't really have much interest in the marque. It screams 'excess' to me. That said, they sell in numbers that show that is what some people want and can afford to indulge that wish. 3,579 were made in 2016, down 3.5% on 2015's 3,707. With competitors such as Ferrari and Mclaren, the small super sports car market is tight and new models constantly required to keep the range

Audi Global Production By Model : 2016

I must say that Audi model designation is easy to follow. The brand also has a cookie cutter method for their design. You have no doubt which family they belong to. That has positives but maybe it's taken a bit too far.

Production was up 6% in 2016, which was sound without being spectacular. The premium segment is getting hot with competition so while overall sales are growing in the premium

Bentley Production By Model : 2016

Just over 11,800 Bentley cars were made in 2016, up 8.5% in the previous year. Leading the way was the new Bentayga SUV (5,600 units) which accounted for 47% of total volume. Next the Continental range adding up to 3,900 manufactured. The Flying Spur totaled 1,700 and the flagship Mulsanne 600 units.

Points of note:

Some key markets were the USA (2,600), the UK (1,950), China (1,600) and

Porsche Production By Model : 1991/2 - 2014

Porsche is an iconic sports car brand that had to change. It was hard to survive on just sports cars so branched out into SUVs. Some wondered if that would dilute the brand but it didn't and made the company much more profitable. It became part of the VW Group around 2010.

One problem I had with the data was the production figures from 1991/92 to 2009/10 cover July to June. The 2010 figure

Bentley Production By Model : 1998-2014

Bentley was founded in 1919 by W.O. Bentley. It was bought by Rolls Royce in 1931 after it went into receivership due to the financial crisis at the time. In 1980, Rolls Royce Motors (including Bentley)  was bought by Vickers. The neglected Bentley marque was then revitalised and by 1991, Bentley and Rolls Royce sales were about 50:50.

In 1997, Vickers decided to sell and BMW was the front

Lamborghini Production By Model : 2010-14

The Huracán (for the uninitiated)

Lamborghini has only been making cars since the mid-1960's. It's had numerous owners as is often the case with this sort of small, exotic car maker. Making a business case for low volume cars is not easy in this day and age. It is now owned by VW and and is a subsidiary of the Audi marque and going very well.

The Huracán coupé is doing very well,

Now Porsche Engine Implicated!

A new accusation from the US Environmental Protection Agency that the 3 litre diesel engine fitted to the 2014 Volkswagen Touareg, the 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and the 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L, and Q5 has also been rigged. VW has denied the latest allegation about the engine, developed by Audi.

VW is sure this is incorrect but if proven to be true, shows how difficult it is to

UK Car Industry: #8 & Below

Below the volume car makers come numerous car companies. I will address some of these that have some size worth noting.

Oh, I think I'll have the red one thanks

Bentley. 10,600 cars made is good volume. They are also in the super luxury class so contribute well beyond the unit figures suggest. Design work is done at Crewe and all the engines are made there too.

Production share (car) of the

Audi Brand Worldwide Production Car By Nation : 2011-14

At 14th is Audi, with production up from 1.9 to 2.1% of global output in 2014 from 2013. About half of all units made are in Germany and by adding China, something like over three quarters of all Audi production is covered. Apart from domestic plants in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm (which make most models), overseas plants are as follows:

Belgium (A1), China (A4L, A6L, Q5), Hungary (TT, A3

Important New Premium Cars At Frankfurt 2015

Making premium cars is a good place to be. Plenty of buyers are paying enough to make reasonable margins in an industry that overall doesn't make enough money to cover the steep costs associated with it. Four new premium cars are highlighted below, all of which will soon be in showrooms.

Alfa Romeo Guilia: FCA is putting a lot of money into the four leaf clover marque. This compact executive

Audi Brand Car Production By Model : 2000-09

In typical Germanic fashion, this decade was about an expansion of models. The Q range of SUVs arrived as did the A5. production fell in 2009, during the economic downturn, but rebounded thereafter.

A4: The compact executive model remained the most popular throughout.

A3: It clawed its way to the second most popular model through the decade, although not that convincingly.

A6: This medium

Audi Car Production By Model : 1990-99

Back in the 1990's, Audi didn't have anything like the range of cars it has now. It was less complicated time, with the range based a round cars, wagons and sports cars. The data below is from the VW Group who are very open with basic production figures. So on to the range:

A4/80/90: It is a compact executive car. The 80 model came as saloon car, a wagon, coupe and convertible. The Audi 90 was

Bentley Car Sales By Nation : 2013

New Flying Spur looks amazing

Bentley sales were an impressive 10,120 in 2013. With the arrival of an SUV in 2016, that will mean a larger Bentley company. 140 staff are now being sought already for the new model, which I believe will be an electric hybrid. The increase for 2013 was 19%.

Certainly a class act

The US is the biggest market by some way, especially with a downturn in luxury

Bentley/Lamborghini Production : 2013

The new Flying Spur flying out of showrooms.

These are two of the halo marques that VW own, both have greatly increased sales in the time that they have been part of the VW Group. Bentley is being produced in record numbers, and Lamborghini one of it's better years.

Firstly, Bentley. Three models make up the range and two variants with the Continental GT. The Flying Spur was updated for 2013
