Latvia / Estonia JLR Comparison : 2010-16

I would have liked t o throw in Lithuania as well but didn't have sufficient data from that publicity shy country. So the other two Baltic states will be what we look at. Latvia's average sales of 11,400 is someway short of Estonia's 18,800. I know that Latvia includes light commercials but probably not Estonia.

Latvia: In terms of sales, JLR manages a respectable 1.25% share of the market.

Latvia Car/LCV Sales - Brand / 2016

The data for Latvia is published rather late and I overlooked releasing it. It covers both passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. The emphasis was on the PC but a few years back, it switched to both categories. Sales were up 15.3% which was healthy although well short of the inflated market of a decade ago.

Toyota was top of the pile but was relieved of that position several years ago.

Estonia Car Sales - Brand / 2016

A series of increases in registrations now has sales here close to record numbers. Certainly the 23,000 cars finding homes in 2016 is along way from the dark days of 2010 when just 8,000 cars sold. Totoyta became the best selling brand in 2004 and has been top dog ever since, except for one slip up in 2011. Škoda has been shadowing the Big T but has been unable to break the stranglehold.

When a nation has car models that are local brands, they dominate lists like this. Latvia imports its cars, so the variety stands out. Models that are German owned are the most popular in the top 50, while US ones are noticeable by their scarcity. As the list includes LCVs, the odd model pops up reflecting that.

Latvia most recently got its independence in 1991, with the end of the Soviet era. It lies between Estonia to the north and Lithuania to the south, the three nations making up the Baltic States.

It's car and Light Commercial sales were down slightly at just under 1% but 2014 is already showing signs of strong growth. Green highlights brand that increased.

Car Sales Lithuania: 2011

Getting any sales data from Lithuania has always been difficult. In fact I do not even have 2010 figures to compare with 2011, except for five brands. If anyone can help with 2010 or earlier, it would be appreciated.

The market had a 48.5% increase, after a couple of very poor years. VW consolidated its top spot and Nissan lifted into 2nd, but from what position I do not know. Its Qashqai model

Car Sales Latvia: 2011

The economic downturn of a few years ago really hurt this Baltic State, but 2011 saw a sharp reversal of fortune, for the better. Sales up nearly 80% must have been a much needed boost for car importers and dealers.
