Moldova Passenger Car Sales : 2018

Registrations were up a healthy 14% in 2018, and the best sales year for a decade. Next door neighbour Romania provides the top selling brand, with one not too far to the north the second best selling. Green shows which brand was up, yellow as well but with a reduced market share and blue was simply down.

The two models that were most sought after were the Dacia Logan (416) and Duster (346).

Poland Passenger Car Sales : 2018

The writing says if you park like this, you're lucky
not to get towed away. They look relieved

Poland had a healthy 9.3% increase, although things slowed toward the end of the year. A minus 5.5% was the result for December. Below in the chart, green shows growth in market share, yellow increase but loss of said share and blue was sales decrease. Registrations were the best for many a year. In

Slovakia Top 50 Models : 2018

This is the country with the highest car manufacturing volume per capita. Škoda in particular does well with both Hyundai and Kia getting models high up the chart. Suzuki scores the top two models for Japanese brands and Ford Focus is the sole representative for the USA.

Škoda sells well here and that shows on the list below. Toyota too is a popular brand and those models too feature often. Europe is clearly the main provider of the best selling cars but Japan too does OK.

Romania Passenger Car Sales : 2018

The data comes from a reputable source but differs by some margin from another equally trusted source. There must be a difference in what they count as passenger cars. As the DRPCIV are much faster at putting the data out, they got the nod. The other source is as slow as a wet weekend.

Sales were up 12% in December and 23% in 2018 as a whole. However, during the year the new fuel

Slovakia Passenger Car Sales : 2018

Registrations here were +2.1% for the year but -25.7% for December. The drop in December has been common across Europe. When it will come back will be interesting. Below the % column is market share and the +/- is sales compared with 2017 year. Below green shows increase.

Škoda leads here and held its market share, while VW fared worse. Suzuki fell three places down the rankings and Toyota

Czech R / Poland / Sweden JLR Comparison : 2010-16

Three averaged sized European nations, one north, another central and the third one east. 280,000 to 310,000 covers the average sales so not too dissimilar. The Czech numbers include light commercials. Sweden is a big market for premium brands, far more than the others. On that basis, Sweden should be the winner in the JLR comparison.

Slovakia / Romania JLR Comparison : 2010-16

Two countries in the central part of Europe, formerly behind the Iron Curtain with one part of the old Czechoslovakia. Car sales are not dissimilar, an average of 78,500 for Slovakia and 91,000 for Romania. However, for JLR one is bigger and growing faster than the other.

Slovakia: Jaguar averages 16.3% of JLR sales, the company taking 0.40% of all sales. There is a solidness about the

Poland Car Sales - Brand / 2016

Sales of 416,000 for 2016 was a very strong result, the best for over a decade. This is the result of two consecutive +17% increases. Škoda has been the best selling car here since 2011, taking over from 2010 top dog Fiat. The latter has since fallen to 16th. VW and Toyota have been tussling over second spot and it hasn't been resolved as to who will take it with any certainty.

The chart

Moldova Car Sales - Brand / 2016

Sales were up 18.3% in 2016, but that was the second lowest this decade. Apart from last year, you would have to go back to 2005 to see lower registrations. The numbers aren't big either but every market represents what people are buying in that region and for that reason it is always interesting to me.

Dacia took top spot in 2010 from Lada and has held it since. That brand is made next door

Romania Car Sales - Brand / 2016

Sales leaped 17% in 2016 and past the 100k mark with ease. Sounds good but the numbers are still quite low compared to some years from last decade. The local car brand Dacia has done well nuder Renault ownership. It still commands over 30% of the sales, although that is down on the last three years. As for the rest, increases are aplenty.

In the chart below, pale yellow represents a reduction

Car Sales Ukraine: 2011

After the sales boom and bust of the last decade, the market had a strong growth to it. Lada now has its lowest market penetration that I know of, and Hyundai will take top spot very soon you would think. Opel was 8th as recently as 2006, but now they fight just for a top 30 spot. Chinese brand Chery crashed from 6th to 15th. It was a good year for European sourced vehicles, as they happily
